Two arrests have been made by Devon and Cornwall Police after two police cameras were damaged in Truro and Perranarworthal.
Devon and Cornwall Police said that the arrests were made on suspicion of criminal damage, that both men are in their 30s, and that one is from Falmouth and the other from Porthleven.
They were arrested as part of an investigation “looking into reports of criminal damage to static speed cameras in Tregolls Road, Truro, and at Perranarworthal,” Devon and Cornwall Police said. “As part of ongoing enquiries, officers from the Road Safety Team and the neighbourhood teams from Truro and Falmouth have carried out a number of property searches and have seized several vehicles.”
CornwallLive reports that the two cameras were knocked down on the morning of 3 January, and that this was the second occurrence of this kind of damage to the one cut down in Perranarworthal.
The cameras that have been illegally taken down were first installed in March 2023, and are of the new variety of two-way speed cameras which can catch a vehicle even if it doesn’t have number plates - like a motorcycle.
