Choppers might not have a reputation for being particularly extreme, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a chopper extreme.
Cue the guys at Grind Hard Plumbing Co., who built their own chopper, and it is possibly the wildest motorcycle we’ve seen. GHP is not new to the custom game, having previously built a Honda Ruckus scooter with the engine swapped for the 999cc unit of a Honda Fireblade, but the bike they call ‘Monster Chopper’ is perhaps even more extreme.
With 46-inch tyres at both ends, this isn’t a bike you sit on so much as in. Even still, the seat is perched above an engine stolen from a KTM 1290 Super Adventure and therefore puts 160bhp in the rider’s outstretched right hand.
Suspension-wise, it’s unconventional. Even the centre-hub steering you’d find on a Bimota looks fairly ordinary compared to the…well, they call it a ‘swingarm’ but it looks more like a subframe, such is its size and multi-pronged design. That design is more or less mirrored at the rear.
The unusual layout of the front of the bike means that an uncommon solution had to be found for the steering. A hydraulic system was decided on and is the most recent addition to the build. Its fitting is featured in the video above.
One thing especially appealing about this bike is that it has no bodywork, which means you can admire the engineering uninterruptedly. On something so spectacularly weird, that seems like a good choice.
