It’s best not to get too excited about concept bikes, because it’s usually the case that the show model looks much more interesting than the production version. That said, Vmoto could yet be onto a winner with their newest collaboration with Pininfarina.
The Vmoto APD scooter concept presented this week at EICMA in Milan is designed by the Italian company and takes a futuristic approach to vehicle design.
It’s not got lasers or a warp drive, or even a battery to power an electric motor for a reasonable distance (as far as we know), but it does have silver paint, filled-in wheels, and a curved strip-LED headlight. Vmoto says that the APD has been designed in the Pininfarina wind tunnel, hence its frontal area, with the main body flanked by a large duct on either side.
It is unmistakably a maxi scooter and thus presents a new era for Vmoto if and when the production version eventually launches since the manufacturer has so far restricted itself to smaller scooter categories.
There’s no indication of the APD’s potential performance, its target audience, its possible price range, or even when it will go into production at the moment, but we hope (perhaps with futility) it retains a certain amount of its conceptual design by the time it reaches the production line.
Graziano Milone - President, Strategy & Business Development & CMO of Vmoto International - said: "We are extremely excited to be able to present the new APD Concept at EICMA 2023, the world's most important motorbike show. The partnership with a historical firm like Pininfarina is a source of pride for our entire company and I believe that the final result is absolutely extraordinary: a scooter that is not only beautiful, but also innovative and performance-oriented, combining Vmoto's electric technology with the Italian trait of Pininfarina's designers.”
Giuseppe Bonollo, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing at Pininfarina, added: "We are happy and honoured to continue our strategic partnership with Vmoto, providing the typical Pininfarina design trait of combining aesthetics, innovation, and performance. Vmoto's APD Concept, designed and built in our Cambiano workshops, has allowed us to express our skills in the aerodynamic field to the fullest, being able to count on the excellence of our Wind Tunnel.”
