Officially revealed at the beginning of 2023, and ridden by Visordown at the launch last month, the LiveWire S2 Del Mar gave us our first taste of the direction the American brand was heading in with its electric bikes. and in all fairness, it is one of the best electric motorbikes we've tested.
The bike was, though, always devised as a first look, and thanks to the machine’s innovative modular platform, and as we highlighted in our review of the S2 Del Mar, it could therefore become a base for a range of new motorcycles.
One such bike is being reported to be the S2 Mulholland, and as the name suggests, it is rumoured to utilise the Del Mar’s battery and motor, although wrapped in a slightly different package. No official information on the bike exists, and the news of the model comes from alleged leaked information that is being reported on by some specialist electric bike titles, but a key thing about the new model is its name.
It’s thought that the Mulholland is a slightly sportier take on the already sweet handling Del Mar, as the bike seems to have been named after a rather famous stretch of road, and not the Leeds-based comedian. Mulholland Drive is a sweeping stretch of asphalt that runs from the Hollywood Hills, in west LA, to the beautiful expanse of Topanga Canyon. It is also quite famous for catching out un-wary (and sometimes unskilled) riders thanks to its seemingly never-ending switchback hairpins and tricky off-camber turns. It’s such a popular route with riders (and crashers) that one YouTuber has made a fairly good living out of camping out on its turns, camcorder in hand.
The existence of the Mulholland has also been revealed in type approval documents uncovered by some US publications. They show the bike, or at least its name in abbreviated form as the ‘S2MH’, whereas the Del Mar we rode last month goes by the ‘S2DM’ moniker. The documents show the S2MH to be a bike 3kg lighter than the S2DM, with a lower seat and slightly longer wheelbase, all of which add weight to the theory that this could be the sportiest LiveWire model yet.
