Like the Ducati 916? Thinking of buying one? We’d like to direct you to the auction of a private bike collection next month, which features no less than 11 916s, leaving you spoilt for choice.
The 916s are among more than 20 Ducati models present, ranging from older stuff like a 1976 900SS to more recent-ish fare like a 999R. We’ve also previously featured Ron Haslam’s old 851S from the same collection. This time it’s that fabulous glut of 916s that’s caught our eye, though.
If you're not looking to spend too much, there's a more 'ordinary' but still very lovely 1997 Biposto with a guide price of £5,000 to £7,000.
At the other end of the scale is a 1995 916 Senna I with an upper estimate of £28,000. Taking its name from F1 legend Ayrton Senna, who was often seen riding Ducatis, this very special 916 came after the three-time champ's tragic death, with profits going to the Instituto Ayrton Senna charity. It's number 146 of the 300 produced and has 2,950 kilometres (1,833 miles) showing on the clock. It was registered in the UK in 1996, and the current owner has had it since 2011.
Sitting somewhere in between those two in this 916-fest are two examples of the 916 SPS or ‘Sport Production Special’. Built to homologate Ducati’s then-new 996cc V-twin that would go on to power the 916-replacing 996, the SPS is a sought-after version of the bike, as reflected by the £20,000 to £25,000 estimates for the two bikes.
There’s also a 916 SP sans fairings, and a Senna II which looks like a bargain compared to the Senna one, coming in at a slightly more reasonable £18,000 to £20,000.
The bikes will be auctioned as part of Iconic Auctioneer's NEC Classic Motor Show Sale taking place from 10 to 12 November. Here’s a full list of what’s available:
